Uncker, you'd be showing your age if you said Vic Watson.

Good shout on Michael Hughes, a player with a decent amount of craft and skill on the ball, disappointed when he went off to Wimbledon.

Graham Paddon, always thought he got left out when conversations came up about good players

Stoaty..... How on earth is Budgie Byrne UNSUNG??? 80 goals for us and 11 apps for England?? Hardly UNSUNG that... bit like someone putting Alvin MARTIN as a Unsung hero (which some plank has done)

Pat Holland was our football coach st school. (Stepney Green) circa 1973/5.

Re: Your Unsung Favourites
Glad to see Pat Holland getting mentioned. The bravest player I ever saw, although it was his bravery that got him the bad knee injury. He was known for his tireless running, but he could play, too, and I always thought it looked like the rest of the team loved him.
And there was that mazy run that ended in a goal against Hereford in the Cup ( I think).

Ahh, not The Castle in Woodford Green. Sorry mate, I misread Woodside School for Woodbridge School...

Oh, and I already bookmarked 'The Invisible Guest' from your mention on the film thread, so cheers for that.

Re: Your Unsung Favourites
TM - you used to play for The Castle ? Hadn't thought of the place in years, brought some memories back.

Funnily enough, someone mentioned the Traveller's Friend to me recently, had a similar effect.

Re: Your Unsung Favourites
Not sure everyone on here has quite grasped the notion of 'unsung'. Gale's a good shout, as a lot of our fans don't really seem to appreciate him although that may be due to his TV work. Here was a CB who could actually play football, as well as defend.

Neil Orr's another good shout. Alan Dickens ?

Re: Your Unsung Favourites
yes, definitely underrated

Re: Your Unsung Favourites
Yes Mike, it was like that, Gale was a very good footballer for a centre back. Alvin was certainly a good footballer as well but more of a blood and thunder type defender. I always felt that Gale was perceived as the junior partner, unlike, say, Lawrenson and Hansen, hence the 'unsung' bit.

Takashi Miike 3:38 Thu Dec 28
Re: Your Unsung Favourites
neilalex, I loved gale and looked at the partnership with alvin as a sort of silk & steel combo. not that alvin couldnt play on the deck too, but their differences made them a great partnership
